whole home humidifier

Whole Home Humidifier

Controlling humidity is critical to indoor air quality. During winter months, properly humidified air can reduce the transmission of viruses, like the flu, by up to 30%, in addition to reducing asthma flares and helping you sleep better. Humidified air also creates comfortable indoor spaces and helps preserve home decor.

  • Bypass Humidifiers are installed just above your furnace and direct warm air through a water tray to add moisture to the air as it’s circulated through your house by the central furnace/AC fan. Recommended for homes of 3,000 square feet or less.
  • Fan-Powered Humidifiers work in the same way as bypass humidifiers but include a fan to push air through the water tray. Because they can produce more humidity in a day, these models are recommended for houses over 3,000 square feet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a surge protection device?

Power surges are caused by lightning strikes and other unplanned electrical grid issues. A high surge of power can severely damage electrical systems like those in your furnace and air conditioner. A surge protector device installs between the incoming source of electricity and the equipment it is meant to protect. The device senses when the incoming electricity is too high and automatically diverts the power flow to dissipate harmlessly.

By maintaining proper humidity in your home, humidifiers are worth it when you consider:

Health and Comfort — During dry winter months, properly humidified air can reduce the transmission of viruses like the flu by up to 30%, in addition to reducing asthma flares and helping you sleep better. It also helps prevent dry skin, eyes, nose and throat.

Energy Costs — Air that contains proper humidity can carry more heat. That could let you feel comfortable at a lower thermostat setting, which can reduce energy costs.

Preservation — Proper humidity helps preserve wood floors and furnishings in your home that can warp or crack due to dry air.

A whole-house humidifier is installed in the ductwork near your furnace and connected directly to your home’s water supply. Air from your home’s HVAC system is directed into the humidifier. Inside, the air passes over or through a panel or other device that is soaked with water. The circulating air causes some of the water to evaporate, increasing the moisture levels in the air that exits the humidifier. The humidified air is circulated throughout the house by your HVAC system.
